Disadvantages

There are many advantages to using solar energy, but there are still some disadvantges, too. One disadvantage is that solar power is the most expensive energies. To use solar energy, it costs about 30 cents per kilowatt hour. That's a lot compared to natural gas or oil, which is about 8 cents per kilowatt hour.

There are many places on Earth that collect solar energy, but solar power still only accounts for less than 0.05%

of energy used worldwide, whereas coal produces 25%, oil produces 37%, and natural gas produces 23%.

Sunlight is dimmed by clouds, dust, moisture in the atmosphere, sandstorms (on other planets), volcanoes (on other planets) and pollution from cars, factories and fossil fuel power plants.

You won't see many photovoltaic (PV) power plants today. PV systems are expensive.

The making of solar cells burns a lot of fossil fuels because the machines that make the cells run on fossil fuels. Batteries are the most common way to store solar energy, but they store very little energy. There may be some disadvantages to using solar energy, but that doesn't make it a bad energy source.
