Geothermal Advantages

A Lot of Geotermal Energy!

The United States of America makes lots of geothermal energy. In fact, 3.5 million homes in the United States of America are powered by geothermal energy. California is one of the world's largest geothermal users and producers. There is a lot of geothermal energy in the earth. For example, 6 kilometers straight down, there is enough geothermal energy to equal 3,000 trillion barrels of oil, which is equal to 200,000 times the amount of energy the whole world uses in a year. There is 50,000 times more geothermal energy than there is coal and oil combined in the earth.

An Everlasting Energy Source?

Geothermal energy is a renewable resource, which means that we will never run out of geothermal energy. It is always being made because it doesn't depend on the weather or miners, like some other energy sources. Another reason that geothermal energy is renewable is that when people use geothermal water from the earth, they can return it and then use it again later. Also, the process to make geothermal water useful again is always happening and doesn't take long because the water will always heat back up when it is returned to earth, making more geothermal water which people can use to make more energy. Geothermal energy is also not harmful to the environment. Geothermal energy can be extracted and obtained without burning fossil fuels, like coal, gas and oil. Out of the 27 billion tons of carbon emissions that humans produce in a year, geothermal plants produce almost none of them. Geothermal energy will last until the earth ends.

Making Money By Geothermal Power

Installing geothermal energy to a house or using a geothermal heat pump costs less than running on gas, which is the most common energy source for homes. (Graph from Google Images)

Once a geothermal power plant is built, geothermal energy is cheap at 4.5 to 30 cents per kilowatt hour. When people install geothermal energy to a house, it can reduce a heating bill. Geothermal power plants are built on top of their source. As a result of this, geothermal fuel is not shipped and not wasting fuel. A geothermal reservoir can provide heat for decades before running out of energy. Geothermal energy has many advantages and is a cheap, clean, and efficient energy source.
